Luke 3:21-22

Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens were opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”

Mark 16:16

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Matthew 28:19-20

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

Acts 2:41

So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.

Acts 2:38

And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 22:16

And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.

The Bible has many verses regarding baptism. For a Christian, baptism is a kind of rebirth; a washing away of original sin and purification of the soul. Baptism is a symbol of a greater reality in the Christian life. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer's faith in Jesus Christ, our crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer's death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ. The Bible instructs us to repent, believe, and be baptized.

Repent

Repentance is defined as feeling or expressing sincere regret or remorse about one's wrongdoing or sin.

Repenting is a prerequisite to water baptism. Repentance is the way provided for us to become free from our sins and receive forgiveness for them. Sins slow our spiritual progression and can even stop it. Repentance makes it possible for us to grow and develop spiritually again. The Bible also tells us that true repentance will result in a change of actions.

Believe

The term god can be used among various religions. As a Christian, we need to believe that Jesus is God and he died on the cross for our sins, and we believe that He has risen from the dead in victory over sin and death, then the appropriate response is to be baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Be Baptized

The final step after repenting and believing is to be baptized! Water baptism is a symbol of Jesus Christ's death, burial, and resurrection. We enter the water as a symbol of entering into a relationship with Jesus Christ, coming just as we are, clothed in our old life with all of its habits, mindsets, and behaviors.

When a believer decides to get baptized, it is a joyous moment in their life. Being baptized is a public declaration of their personal decision to make Jesus Lord and Saviour of their life. It’s a declaration that the old has gone and the new is here.
