Christians Living Worry Free

I really never considered myself as a worrier. But as I got older and motherhood is present and real, I found myself worrying about things that didn’t make sense.
Worrying about little things and big things.
From when my children were newborns until now, there is always something to worry about. Even when in the womb I worried if my baby was developing properly and getting the right nutrition. Now that my two older boys are in their teens, I worry about their safety at school, driving, education, spiritual life, and even their dating life, which hasn’t even happened yet.
Worry is a part of life because of the fallen world we live in. We will experience heartache and pain. We witness natural disasters and staggering loss. Injustice, inhumanity, and falsehood seem to hold sway. Discord and trouble are commonplace. None of this was God’s original plan for humanity. We fell from our original position in the Garden of Eden. We now live in a fallen world, and all creation “groans” under the consequences of our sin.
Romans 8:22
“We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.”
The good news is that God does not intend His world to forever groan. Through Jesus Christ, God is repairing His creation.
Worry can consume us.
Temporary worrying can be healthy. The kind of worry that becomes a way of life, where our minds automatically focus on all the things that could go wrong and how we can control and prevent it is when it becomes unhealthy. When it starts to affect our health and sleep, we need to turn our focus on God’s word and pray.
John 14:1-3
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”
Matthew 6:27-28
“And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.”
Philippians 4:6-7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Jesus cares for us.
We may feel alone when we’re in the midst of a life full of an unbreakable cycle of worry. But Jesus has come to redeem and restore all that was broken in the fall. He came to rescue us from our sins and to bring us back into the right relationship with God.
2 Corinthians 5:18
“All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation”
Jesus loved us enough that he took our punishment for us by dying on the cross. But it didn’t end there. He rose from the grave and gave us Holy Spirit that lives in us to help us get through challenging times.
God gives us peace.
God may not remove the situations and circumstances that bring us worry. But he will give us peace in the midst of those worries. It’s a peace that doesn’t make sense to the world. It’s a peace beyond human understanding. It’s a peace that only comes from knowing God and having a relationship with Him.
Philippians 4:7
“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
2 Corinthians 13:11
“Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.”
